I'm trying to calculate a weight distribution for an assembly that I have. I want to divide it into sections and calculate the total weight in between each bay cut. I was wondering how I would achieve such a section cut? I've made planes for each section cut but I'm stumped there.

I'm relatively new in v5 so please bare with me. Thanks

why can you not calculate the weight directly using the analysis tool

Because that would give me the weight of the entire part. I only need the weight of whatever lies between the two section cuts.

I tried to use the sectioning tool and defining the section slices. It shows up visually exactly what I want but when I take the weight of it, it still takes the weight of the entire assembly.

assuming it is 3D weights that you require then you will have to modify the 3D to give you what you want

If you really need this, you can create a new temporary assy with what you want inside.

There is a script which can help you to do this in that help file posted in the forum (in fact, you can find it also in DS documentation).

Fernando
