If a spherical part is dimensioned in a section view, do these dimensions only apply at that particular section? For example, if one were to dimension a hollow sphere (OD – 50mm+/-1mm, ID – 45mm+/-1mm) in a cross section, would one check these dimensions at many cross sections or only the cross section shown in the drawing.

If you use an S before the diameter symbol it means a spherical diameter and would apply in all directions.

Yes, dgallup is correct. One must have a "S" prior to the diameter symbol to represent a spherical diameter and it is in the standard.

without the S, regardless to it being a section or standard view, you are asking for a cylinder.

See section 5.15 of ASME Y14.5-1994 which discusses spherical features. An "S" preceding the diameter symbol is appropriate.
