I recently encountered an issue with a drawing and how it related to its assembly model. In this case, I have a cylindrical bushing that has two configurations: default and swaged. Swaging is the process that reduces the diameter of the bushing. The bushing consists of an inner tube, bonded rubber and an outer tube. When the outer tube gets swaged the outer diameter of the rubber also decreases.

The default configuration is the bushing as it appears after molding and I have a drawing that shows that. After that drawing was completed and saved, I did a ‘save as’ to create the swaged print. I changed the view properties to use the named configuration called ‘swaged’. When I open the drawing, the rubber shape reverts to the default configuration: the rubber extends into the i.d. of the swaged outer metal. If the model and drawing are open at the same time, the views are correct. If the drawing is opened by itself the views are incorrect.

Has anyone ever encountered such an issue? If so, what measures do I take to prevent this from happening again?
