Section view created from another section view?

Is it legal to create a section view from another section view? Thanks in advance.

My gut says no but I can't remember where in the spec (Y14.5 probably) it might say and don't have time to go look right now.

There are a couple of regular posters who probably know off the top of their heads though.

The dwg should be clear and unambiguous.

It's OK to do, and per ringman's quote.
I don't section from a section unless it turns out to be the clearest, and I rarely do it.

I don't have the spec on hand that would define this, but some CAD packages won't let you due to ambiguity - do you show a section of the entire part or a section of a section of the part?

I could not find it in ANSI Y14.3 Multi & Sectional View Drawings. But if you think about it the portion of the object between the cutting plane and the observer is assumed to be removed so how can a section of that section be correct. I think it's "bad english" to take a section of a section.

From the Genium Drafting Manual (based on ASME Y14.3-1994) states "A SECTION CANNOT BE TAKEN THROUGH ANOTHER SECTION" (emphasis theirs).
