Hi,

I was asked by a plan checker to include the above section in the my shear wall design because of the shape of the house in plan. I am wondering how to properly apply this section. It says "Section 12.5.1 is deemed satisfied if members and their foundations are designed for 100 percent of the forces for one direction plus 30 percent of the forces for the perpendicular direction". I believe it is for any orthogonal direction. My question is, if I have a shear wall with a tributary area, should I use the same area or do I have to change the tributary area per direction? If I use the same area the means I'm just multiplying the loads by 1.3, correct? Thanks in advance guys.
