Has anyone used the Scan to 3D feature to convert OBJ files to solid models within Solidworks?
If so... how would you rate it.... does it work well? Looking for a way to convert OBJ files to
solids. Thanks.

Hello:

In the past we have seen that Scanto3D of SolidWorks Premium being able to 'solidify' 3D Scan data. It all depends on the resolution and density of the scan cloud data and interpolation schemes used. I do not think there should be any issues. We have done it for 'arbitrary' geometries such as human bones and did not find any issues.

Best regards
Nat

is the surface tesselated (triangles) or smooth?

the files to be translated are OBJ files, sop they are tesselated. Why do you ask?

big difference between the two... a surface is more useful if you need to do further work.
