How do I save a solid works file to a dwg. and a dxf?

With the SolidWorks drawing open, go to File --> Save As --> Save as type, and select DWG. Go to "Options" to set-up the export settings, such as version and spline export options.

I may be wrong, but I believe you have to make it into a drawing in SolidWorks first. Otherwise I think the dwg option in the saveas is grayed out. If anyone knows better, please jump in here and say so.

Smoky,

I believe you are correct. I assumed the file he wanted to export to DWG was a SolidWorks drawing. I do not know if SW2009 allows the export of a part file directly to DWG, but you can create an eDrawing (ePart) directly from a part file.

If you have not do so, create a SolidWorks drawing with the desired part / assembly views. You can add dims in the SW drawing, or export as a DWG and add dimensions later.
