When placing a fence in V8 (or V7 for that matter), you can place a fence by shape. You can create an intricate fence before closing it. However, I can't find a way to save that fence. No, not the fence contents, but the fence itself. If you simply sneeze or tap any other element after placing a fence, your fence disappears forever. All that hard work in defining a fence is lost. Is there not a way to save a fence, kind of like you can save a view? Even a 10 year old version of Photoshop allows you to save a fence for future usage. Why can't Microstation do likewise?

Instead of placing the fence by shape, place the fence by element. That way you can make a closed element as intricate as you wish, select it to create the fence, and then keep the element in case you need the fence again. If you are using the fence to clip references, you can bypass the fence altogether and clip by element.
