SAT - Import & Scale

I'm attempting to import an SAT model which is in inches. When it appears in SW, it comes over in millimeters (it's 25.4 times smaller than it should be). I can find no option in SW to control what units the file should import at. Am I missing something or is there truly no control over the units? Confused...

When you select the (.sat) file type from the pull-down menu you should see an "Options" button also appear. Click on that button and under General-Unit make sure the radio button "File specified unit" is checked. If the other button labeled "Document template specified unit" It will use whatever units your default template is set to.

If the file is too Small or too Big when it is opened isn't because SW scaled it. It's because that was the way the file was saved. SW doens't control the scale only the Units used. So if it comes in 2.54 inches then if MM is used it simply comes in to the MM eqivelent to 2.54".

Sorry to butt in, might be irrelevant, not a SW user...

If there's not an easy way to control the units (incorrectly exported?) on import or correct after import; it is easy to change the unit "flag" in the SAT. It's a scale factor referenced to mm (1) in the header (first value in third line) and can even specify that the model is "unitless" (-1).

Jeff--that's a great tip, and I ended up doing that yesterday on the model I had problems with. Very handy.

If you had gone to the options when opening the file, it gives you the option of using "File specified Unit" or Document Template Specified Unit". If Document template was used and inches were specified in that template, then it would come in as inches. If you Specified it to use the File specific, then that would override the template units and bring it in what ever that maybe.

Hard editing changes the scale of the SAT file--by changing the '1' to '25.4' I was able to bring the model into SW correctly.

Changing the 'specified unit' option only changes the unit type--1 inch will display/measure as either 1 inch or 25.4mm.
