Hi,
assuming Medium Subrounded SAND (0.25 - 0.5 mm) i would like to estimate the force required (virtually staight pull) to remove an umbilicle burried at 0.8m at a 30meter water depth.

Could someone point me in the right direction please?

thanks
Patrick

The water depth will not be a factor. The diameter and length will be a factor. This may be a case where a drawing would help (it's kind of hard to visualize the problem).

please refer to attached sketch.

lenght of the umbilical is 5km, but less relavant as a vessel moves allong while the umbilical is pulled in (so a virtual straight pull will be maintained).

Many thanks
Patrick
