Is that true that land surveyors are poor in the US?
I've been talking to 4 surveyors I found on facebook and they earn about $2000/month. It's less than street sweeper god damn it. Looks like I have chosen a wrong profession.
 
...and the streetsweeper likely gets pension, health and vacation, to boot...

I would say it depends where you are at. If you were willing to put up with what goes on in the oil fields you can probably make a pretty good living. Then you will also have to deal with the ups and downs in the oil prices. Check out craigslist in Midland/Odessa TX. They have positions listed for licensed surveyors advertised as paying 75-100k yearly. Of course you will have to pay your dues, gain some experience, and get licensed. Also check out North Dakota. You might also be working more than 40 hrs a week. Fluor which is a US based company is currently advertising for a survey position in Afghanistan and I'm pretty sure that would pay even better.
