I am looking for information on cable tensions for overhead CATV, and phone lines. I have a program to figure out tensions but I have to know how much sag is in the line between the utility poles. Does any body know what percent sag is usually figured for this type of calculation?

Thanks for your help, Jacob E

Jacob E,

Generally the sag is determined by the clearance below and on the sides, and/or the maximum tension desired in the line. If none of these requirements control, try different sags to get an idea of maximum sag vs. maximum tension and the right selection will be obvious. I do not know of a rule of thumb to determine the optimum sag.

Regards
