I have an application where safety valve set pressure is 240 bar g, relieving temperature is 529 Deg c and fluid is hydrocarbon gas. What are spring material choices in such case? Are there any guidelines for spring material selection?
Cam72, that's a question for the valve vendors. You're out of the range of standard service conditions. Different vendors use different alloy materials for springs.
Consult with the vendors to see if they have a spring material that is compatible with these conditions. I thing this temperature is going to be the biggest problem. The vendors will probably suggest an open-bonnet PSV (ASME Sec I valve).
I work for a PSV service company, and our products include Anderson Greenwood, Crosby, Sempell, Marvac etc, if you have an issue with anything of this nature please just ask.
