Hi,

I'm using SAFE 12, and I have a hard time trying to model a slab on expansive soil. I have an uplift linear load only on the perimeter beam of the slab. The super imposed dead weight is not enough to counter the uplift pressure. I have defined a spring value (compression only) and my load combination 0.9D+1.6L (uplift) has been defined as NON LINEAR.

But when I run my model, I'm expecting to see the edges of the slab to be uplifted and to have some significant moment forces on the perimeter. But I have nothing (0.00012 kip*ft)

Anyone has experience with such problem ? how to you model it ?

any help would be appreciated

thx

hi,

If I got you right, you have an uplift force at the edge and since the arm of force is zero so the moment value will be zero. But if you have the moment load at the edge of the slab caused by the effect of basement wall this will cause uplift situation and the value of moment is equal to moment load added.
