Hi,

The latest version of SA240 now specifies that 409 S/S is obsolete and replaced with 40910, 40920 or 40930. The differences between them being different amounts of Ti and Cb. The mill can provide either of these standards when 409 S/S is order under the A240 specification.

Has anyone investigated the benefits offered by the different types. I suspect benefits are in formability and corrosion resistance.

Thanks,

I would also hazard a guess that the Ti and Cb stabilize the alloy also.

The various mfg and users of 409 in automotive exhaust would like you to believe that the different stablizations have different impacts on the weldability/formability/corrosion resistance.
Let's just say that I am a skeptic, since swearing would be very unprofessional.
Stabilized 409 is good, how they do it really doesn't matter.

Corrosion, every where, all the time.
Manage it or it will manage you.
