On internet i find that lot of suppliers are offering SA 514 material. But i don't fins it in ASME SEC. IIA.
I find it only in ASTM & not in ASME.
Experts please shed light on this.
Please be cautious, there are many ASTM specs without ASME equivalents. This is often because they lack chemistry restrictions or mandatory minimum mechanical properties.
I have seen many cases where non-US or EU suppliers will advertise SA material to non-existent specifications.
Know what spec you are looking for, before you begin searching.
If an ASTM standard or grade is not mirrored in ASME, it is because the material simply has no application in pressure equipment, or because it would be a bad idea to permit it.
"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."
ASME will not approve a new material until a User wants (needs) to use it and submits a Code Case application to do so, as I did to permit the use of Hastelloy X in 1974 for pressure vessel construction. And it was accepted for use under its published Code Case. If enough Users use the new Code Case material it will be issued in ASME II under its own Specification or grade under an existing ASME Product Specification (like P91).
Today the rule is if you are issued a code case you agree to shepherd though the spec development.
In most cases they will not renew code cases anymore. Either it becomes a spec or it dies.
