I have an existing vessel that was built SA-455-B material (heads and shells). Per ASME & MTRs the yield is 35,000 psi and the ultimate is 70,000 psi.

These yields are very close to the yield for more typical SA516-70 materials.

My question is as follows:

1.) What weld wire should be used for SA-455-B per ASME VIII, Div 1?
2.) Can we use the same ER70 that we would typically use for SA516-70?

Thank you.

Yes, you can use ER70 filler wire. The SA 455 material are P-No 1 Group 2 classification.
