What would be the reccomended weld for welding 316 stainless steel tubing to a 316 stainless steel elbow?

Recommended for you

The recommended filler material for 316 stainless steel is 316L (Low carbon). For maintaining corrosion resistance full annealing at 1950 to 2050F (1065 to 1120C) should follow welding.

 
Are you asking for welding processes? If so, the GTAW process, manual or automatic, may be employed. If you have many welds to do, fully automatic tube welding is recommended. If you only have a few welds, manual welding is recommended. I would need more info regarding design conditions to recommend filler metal and PWHT.

 
Thanks for the help. One other question, would I call out the weld as a "V" weld?

Typical elbow to pipe welds are fillet.
 
If you have a butt weld, a square bevel is normally all that is required for T < about 0.15&quot;. Welding is done with a single pass.

 
Goahead & alexsasdad,
Full annealing may not necessary for welding 316L stainless steel in typical application. If you really need PWHT, the cooling rate should be fast.
