ASME B16.5 RTJ Joint detail does not specify any hardness value for the material. whereas the gasket standard specifies the hardness range that can be there for a material of the ring. Is it implicit that the hardness that is there for a CS material is a certain figure. How does one ensure that the facing hardness is at least 50 BHN above the gasket hardness. A supplier says that it is not always possible to measure the hardness of the joint surface because of getting the instrument to reach the groove sealing surface. What about CRA overlayed flanges, don't they need to have a hardness value established so as to know that the gasket will not gall the flange groove face.
