I'm trying to determine if there is a standard stocked item that is a two ended stud with Lh and rh opposing rolled threads. preferably with a wrench useable surface in the middle. Set up charges to produce the onezy, twozies that I need are too much.

Regards,

Cory

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.

If you need a rod with a flat or hex center an opposite threads (male) on the ends most roll thread shops should be able to make these in a small number. This is fairly standard tooling for some clamping systems.

Cory: Thanks for the note on McMaster catalog. Their item is exactly what I was looking for except it is 6061-T6 and I forgot to mention that I was needing grade 5 or grade 8 steel. I've e-mailed McMaster for possible source.

EdStainless: I got a quote for a small number of these things from one shop and the set up charge was $500. Ouch.

Sorry, a) that's the McMaster catalog, specifically, and b) those don't have the hex in the center.

btrueblood. Yikes what McMaster catalog are you looking at? and what is the description? My page 3093 has quick release pins.
Also recent quote from another shop was $198 each for 10..
Thanks

For structural applications you also must specify the grade of turnbuckle you need. In Australia you can get Commercial, and Grades G, P, S. To match the strength of a same size mild steel bar (fy=250 MPa) I would specify Grade P. You must make sure that the rod will yield before you get failure in the turnbuckle.
