Can anyone tell me the difference between a 2117-T4 (AD) and a 2017 (D)Rivet. Is it the different alloying elements and or the heat treat of these rivets? More importantly, can you explain the differences in their applications as related to aviation installations? Thanks.

D is stronger than AD.

both are driven at room temp, tho' D (being harder mat'l) are harder to buck.

Curious why rivets are so popular in Aerospace?

Toad,

it's their strength-to-weight ratio. An aircraft put together with nuts and bolts would never get off the ground
