If you're doing simple (pinned) base plate designs, spreadsheets may be faster if you have simple geometry, rectilinear anchor layout, etc. RISABase will solve bi-axial bending load cases for W, tube and pipe columns on square or rectangular base plates. The program does a fairly good job solving these cases quickly, with or without gussets (except on pipe columns), varied acnchor bolt configurations, etc. The free demo version gives a nice overview of the capabilities.
Where it is lacking (IMHO) is connectivity/interoperability like with 3D (like RISA Foundation). Input is not robust (simply manual input), no cut and pasting of loads or load combinations like 3D, Foundation, or Foot. No design rules like Foot or Foundation. Only 6 load cases are available.
As for anchor checks, I find it cleaner to use Hilti PROFIS for anchor design, but that may be just a preference of mine. I've heard rumblings that it would be assimilated into Connection, but not soon. JoshPlum would probably know more about that.
