Hey all,

I'm in the process of figuring out shear wall design in RISA 3D, however I'm not that familiar with the program wall panels as of yet. Is there a way to specify which segments are used as shear walls? I'm trying to model a wall with an opening, but it is taking a segment that is not adequate h/d as being able to transfer vertical load, when my intention is to transfer into a wider shear wall segment. I've tried drawing all three regions (left right and above the door) as different regions, but that doesn't transfer loads correctly, and any other way I model it in doesn't allow for the opening as it is on a panel edge.

Hoping someone with experience with this can help!

I'm certainly not an expert, but I have some recent experience. First of all, I found out you cannot combine segmented shear walls and FTAO shear walls (or perforated shear walls) in the same wall. For a FTAO wall, you need 3" minimum on one end to allow room for a king stud and a trimmer. If you want a segmented wall in the same line as a FTAO wall, you need to break them into separate wall panels. Not regions. Wall panels.
