Dear Madams/sirs
For rolling(hot rolling) of Rimmed steel what parameters must be considered ?

Best regards

Your question is too vague. You need to provide more details if you want any meaningful replies.

Dear sirs
Rimmed steel ingots have pin holes and blow holes. It has been said that with controlling of temperature and reduction during rolling ,rolling of these steel grades are possible.
I would like to know about rolling temperature and proper reduction for producing of billet from ingot.

Best Regards

Rimmed steels have been used for years in steel making and subsequent hot rolling operations. Appreciable scarfing was often required of the hot rolled slabs prior to plate rolling or hot strip rolling. No major hot rolling parameter changes were used versus killed or semi-killed ingot cast steels.

Bottle top rimmed steels were used for cold rolled sheet products for decades. Porosity confines itself to a layer below a skin of initially solidifying steel. This resulted a cold rolled surface substantially free of skin lamination and other surface flaws.

I believe there are a few steel producers that produce rimmed steels in wire rod form for the cold heading/cold extrusion industry. As stanweld mentioned, these steels are hot rolled the same way that killed steels are. The definition of hot rolling steel is that it performed at a temperature high enough to have a fully austenitic structure and therefore metallurgical defects such as porosity are readily eliminated through large scale deformation/plasticity. I suggest you review a reference book on the subject such as The Making, Shaping, and Treating of Steel available from AIST (
