returning variables from GUI

I was wondering if anyone could help me. Im writing a GUI and I want to return multiple variables, but at different times, For instance, I have a list of files and options to perform on those files, so how would I, lets say, use 'n' files and then return the data in 'n' variables. Sometimes the user might only need to return one thing, other times, they may want to return 10 things.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
