It's a long shot, but maybe the existing floor that I am looking at was never designed for the now 100psf live load required for retail. I can't get ahold of the 82 ansi58.1 to see. Can some one look this up and share it with me?
thanks

My UBC 1988 (Table 23-A) gives retail stores a 75 psf live load with a 2000 lbs. concentrated load (over a 2.5 sq. ft. area)on a otherwise unloaded floor. 100 psf with 3000 lbs for wholesale.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

My '79 UBC shows the same design values. They should apply for '82 also.

Thanks a bunch guys, that sure feels right. No, owner, you may not add a stone floor.
