Resource allocation gantt chart ? Possible ?

My company rents out hire equipment and I would like to create an output of resource usage in the form of a Gantt chart.

The problem is to display multiple blocks of dedicated time with the remaining unhired times shown as clear space.

If I make a summary task with all the individual hires as subtasks then I get one continous summary task bar with no gaps where the equipment is still available.

The resource usage charts are too complex showing %age availability on each day. I just want a simpler block on the day if its hired, and nothing if its free.

Any ideas ?
