residual stresses due to welding

Hi,

I try to incude residual stresses due to welding to my nonlinear analysis as to be initial stresses. There are many ways to do that. Unfortunately, in articles that I have found up to now are only partial information
Can anyone recommend me some step-by step (or in more details) articles or web pages about that ?

One way of putting into a model a distribution of residual stress is to apply an initial spatial distribution of temperature. This is usually with material in the vicinity of the weld set to a higher temperature than the remainder, with a gradual drop in temperature with distance from the weld. Then in the first step of the analysis set the temperature of the model to uniform. This should produce a distribution of residual stress; but you must check it to make sure it is sensible.
