I am trying to find residual stresses induced during welding process in ANsys10.
The model is symmetric with the thickness being the global Y and width X axis of Ansys work plane.
I am using thermal transient analysis followed by structural analsyis. For thermal plane 55 element is used and plane 42 is used for structura
the approach is to establish the temperature field over regualr time intervals and then
the structural analysis is performed using the new element type(palne 42).I have
problem doing the structural part.
Could someone explained as to how to read that temperature distribution for structural part
Thanks.

AM,
Just for your future knowledge you would be better served to post this on the Ansys forum next time. In regards to your question, this can be done a few different ways. The easiest is to use the LDREAD command. After issuing LDREAD I would plot the applied temperatures using the /PBF command to verify that they are being applied correctly before solving.

Good luck,
-Brian
