I am currently dealing with an ANSI 150 steel ball valve that is buried in an area that makes it very difficult to have it replaced. We would like to requalify the system in the future to 400 psig, which would require an ANSI 300 rated valve. The manufacturer has indicated that the existing valve could be requalified to the new rating, since all its components are the same. However, according to the manufacturer API-6D prohibits them from doing it in the field. My question is: what other avenues are there so that we would be able to requalify it in the field without having to remove it from the system? We could isolate a portion of the system, including the valve and requalify it? Is that an option?
