Hello,

Can anyone tell me how to replace blocks under Autocad. The replaced blocks have the same name as the new ones.

Thijsie

Thijsie,

When you say replacing blocks in AutoCAD, I take it you mean maybe placing an updated block in your drawing. I can't remember about the older versions, but when using 2002, if a block is in the drawing already and I go to insert it again, I am prompted as to whether I want to replace the existing block.

Maybe I am misled by your question. What version are you using?

Haggis.

if you are modifying a block in a drawing....
insert the block somewhere else in the drawing, put a line or point at the "ins" (insert) of the block. recall the name exactly and explode and modify the block. re-block with the same name and the same insert point. - all blocks with that name will now be updated.

if you modify a block in a separate drawing........the drawing will ask you if you want to update the existing block. say yes. the only problem with this is if the original block is nested inside another block, the new block will take the original attributes. If this is the case, purge the original from your drawing and re-insert the updated version

In AutoCAD:
Insert
OldBlockName=NewBlockName
