replacement 95 Tercel engine

I am interested in replacing the engine in my 95 Tercel with a new, more powerful engine, particularly one with VVT-I. So my question is what engine models would fit in my car?

Most likely a 2NZ-FE motor (I believe that's the correct engine code) from the Echo. Whether the mounts of the "NZ" block line up correctly with the "E" block of the Tercel, I don't know.
