Repair NPT Male Thread With Repairing Die

I have a 1/2 NPT Male Brass fitting with NPT thread cut with wrong taper (2.2 instead of 1.788 degrees). Looks like it was single pointed and they attempted to fix them with a die but that's just a guess. It gages within +/- turn to face of thread but worries the incorrect taper will allow it to leak.

1. Is this incorrect taper reason alone to scrap? Even though it gages, I don't think it will make-up wrench tight properly and will leak.
2. Because the taper is too steep, could this be corrected with a Repairing Die?
3. Could the face be pushed back 1/8" and use a Die to "chase" the existing threads deeper and correct the taper issue? Or with single point on lathe?

There is only 1/8" of length left to work with to try and correct the problem or I'll have to scrap the part. Material is 360 Brass

I would be more concerned that the too-steep taper means that the length of engagement for full threads is compromised. I expect that enough sealant can prevent leaks, but it cannot offer stability against external loads or providing enough tensile strength.

I doubt that 1/8" is enough.

A "repairing die" is typically used when the crests of a correctly made thread are damaged, like using a pipe wrench to remove a stubborn stud or pipe stub. It makes a minimal removal of displaced material while leaving the majority of the existing thread in place. I suppose there are also thread-rolling tools that will push material instead of cutting it, but neither can restore what wasn't in place to begin with.
 
First you get parts with no taper and now parts with too much taper? Is this the same supplier? [thumbsdown]
