I'm looking for a FEA Program that is 2nd hand or one I could rent or lease for 6 months. I have used Algor or Ansys in the past when I worked in Industry.

It must be capable of doing time dependent thermal and structural studies of less then 500 elements.

I'm now retired and don't have access to them in my private practice and the prices of new programs are prohibitive to do small one man consulting work.

Some years ago I remember Ansys selling off older versions of their software, that were no longer supported, at very cheap prices. These were the full versions of their software and as such wouldn't have the limitations you state. You received no technical support for the old version of the support, however, so you'd need to be fairly conversant with it. I'd contact them, or other FE producers, to see if similar offers were available.

I know that ADINA has a 900-node version that costs $140 and it comes together with a finite element book. That may be ideal if your 500-element model doesn't exceed the node limit above. See for details.
