I am currently looking for a replacement for SKF Remko B magnetic iron and was wondering if anyone knows of any alternatives. It is being used on a DC electromagnetic relay, and I need the same magnetic properties.
I'm not familiar with the SKF product, and couldn't find a straight cross reference. However, Carpenter Makes a complete line of specialty magnetic irons, and alloys.
A quick email to a former colleague of mine that works in Europe netted the following:
Remko B would be equivalent to Carpenter Pure Electrical Iron
Remko A would be equivalent to Carpenter Vacumet Core Iron.
Either would work well in a relay application. I don't think the minor improvements of a vacumm melted core iron justify it's price tag for a typical relay (assuming it's not for the space program, or something else unusual.)
You should be able to use Carpenter Electrical Iron. If machinability is a primary concern, then Carpenter Electrical Iron FM would be the choice to make.
