There is an interesting eng-tips thread under:

PSVs...what's missing?

This has some background information you may find useful on the difficulties and opportunities for the proper analysis of relief and flare systems.

Be aware that this is a vastly more complex subject than many seem to realize.

This is a fairly big and complicated job. I hope you are not afraid seeking help within your company. Looking for help on the internet can be fine - but could also lead you atray since most companies have their own engineering stnadrs covering these subjects. While they all contains common elements and share the fundamentals there can be many more subtle differences.

Look for someone within you company whos the expert and then also go looking for you companys engineering standard.

Best regards

Morten

Thanks Morten,

I looking for information in internet because Im new worker and I want any documentation about it. I supposed that someboy in my work site can help me too.

Thask everbody!!!

Very briefly:

API 502/521 is the main source for most issues relating to PSV and flare/blowdown systems.

The Crosby engineering handbook linked to in a previous post is more or less a free version of 520 - you should however read the original. Be aware that you get the lastest ed.(Jan 2000 i believe).

API 14C contains guidelines re. basic surface safety systemst for offshore production platforms and should also be studied.

Best regards

Morten

Couldn't agree more with Morten. Relief systems are complicated and essential, they are a matter of life and death. Please know what you're doing.

First of all I would try PDVSA´s MID (Manual de Ingenieria de Diseno), there is a whole volume dedicated to vent & relief systems!
