Reinforcing - concrete slab-on-metal deck

Hey - I have a 5" slab on metal form deck specified which is supported on bar joists - commercial building. Concrete design calls for a WWF 4x4 to achieve proper temp/shrinkage design. The strength design requires only WWF 6x6. GC would like to stick with the WWF 6x6 if possible. I'm considering a fiber mesh additive along with the WWF 6x6 to resolve the temp/shrink design. Any experience adding fiber mesh to a concrete slab on metal deck with WWF? Thanks for any feedback.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. Could you go to a thicker wire 6x6?

Good question. I'll check on that as an option. Price of steel is pretty crazy these days.

Those fibres in the dosages required are also expensive. So it's likely a wash.

Depends on what type fiber you are talking about. Steel fibers help with toughness and some strength enhancement. Plastic fibers are useless, IMHO. What do you mean by "fiber mesh"? Aren't they discrete fibers?

Macro synthetic fibers. Work well for temp/shrink crack control. However, so far my research has shown these will not help save cost.
