Hi all,
I have concrete pavement (about 12" thick) that is sitting directly on top of an underground structure. There is waterproofing between the pavement and the underground structure. However, the contraction joints for the pavement look very deteriorated and I want to rehabilitate these joints to reduce the likelihood of water penetration to the structure below. Attached is a picture of what these joints look like.
Given the concrete spalling along the joint, I imagine this is more than just removing existing sealant and placing new sealant, and that the concrete along the joint should be repaired to give a uniform sealant resevoir. Or am I overthinking this? How does one properly repair the shallow concrete spalling along the joint such that it doesn't pop out in a few years? This pavement sees a lot of heavy traffic use.
[edit] The more I see the picture the more I feel that just removing existing sealant and pouring hot asphalt sealant over the existing joint is enough - spalling doesn't seem so much that it warrants a concrete repair. What do you think?
Thanks
