I understand that RECTISOL is a possibly a trademarked name for a refrigerated methanol gas scrubbing process (licensed by Linde or Lurgi).
But can a refrigerated methanol process be designed without having to get a license from the original designer? Methanol as a solvent (for CO2, etc) has been around a long time; is the process still patented?
