I need some expertise in checking cracked capsule or tablet prior to blister packaging it. Product goes down from a funnel to series of formed pockets in an infeed conveyor which then goes to the sealing station. There is an existing vision system that detects empty pockets or cracked/crashed product which eventually stops the machine. The task is to add a redundant cracked/deformed product detector on the infeed conveyor section. The vision system is located right before the sealing station. So ideal place to install the checker is just before the vision system...installing a second vision system is not an option..

Any experience on this? I am not sure if an ultra-sonic sensor will work..been checking some catalogue but can't get any that will do the job...

much appreciated

we inspect small confectionery products using a vision system that has been modified to analyze the signal from an analogue capacitive sensor instead of a captured image. The signal represents a measurement of density of the product passing in front of the sensor. If sufficient separation between the pieces exists and movement speed is not excessive this method could be useful to you.
