Reducer - FEA analysis

Hello

Actually we require a concentric reducer for a piping connection with unstandard thickness made with forging material.

What we have done for this is we calculated the bigger end & smaller end connection pipe calculation & ensured the strength of reducer.

But AI was not accepting this calculation of reducer as it is a unstandard size (i.e. apart from the thickness provided in B36.10)

So, AI is requesting to provide the FEA report for the reducer.

Anyone please guide me in performing the FEA analysis?

My doubt in FEA is how to provide the thermal load for the reducer & the boundary condition required.

If any document related to this may helps a lot.

Thanks in advanvce

You need to run thermal and sustained load cases with the neatest standard reducer thickness and get the end forces and moments of the reducer. You can then input the same forces and moments as boundary conditions in FEA analysis with required non-standard thickness of reducer. The end forces and moments of the reducer will not be significantly different if you take a nearest standard thickness.

What is the difference of calculating this as straight seamless pipe just like ASME B16.9 fittings per UG-44?
