I wish to modify an existing oil film test rig that tends to pull to one side, preventing the specimen from resting flush on the roller. Please see the attached sketch as a reference. A spring to pull the armature back is the cause of the problem. My proposed solution is to cut the armature behind the specimen and forward of the heat fins, attach a connector that would allow the tip to self-adjust freely on the roller while the rest of the armature still pulls to one side. Does anyone have a recommendation on an inexpensive but robust connector to handle this function? The armature is about 3/4" in diameter. The connector will see temperatures around 350 F.
