I have a client that is looking to install a bulkhead at a freshwater lake. The contractor has given the following options for steel which will be driven into the soil in shallow water:

5 gage-black steel
OR
8 gage-galvanized steel

I welcome any suggestions or recommendations.

Considering the damage to the galv during the driving I don't see any justification to using thinner galv.
I would think that the heavy gage black would be fine.
