Can anyone recommend a mid to high speed reciprocating compressor manufacturer who offers their own performance/rating software along with technical training? My applications will be natural gas gathering and transmission along with CNG and injection.
I use it for diagnostics more than for new machine sizing. If you run your skid-edge conditions into their program and the physical parameters within the skid don't match the program really closely then you can be sure that there is something wrong with the compressor (yes, it is THAT good).
I’m familiar with Ariel and am in the process of packaging 40 of their JGE2/3 & JGQ2/3 frames. So far I’m extremely impressed with their technical support as well as their performance program. I’m by no means a power uses of the program but recognize it for the masterpiece it is; I’m still amazed they give it away. I recently attended the Technical School they offer and found it and their facility to be top notch. They’ve done well providing the 3D models and torsional data I’ve asked for, as well.
I haven’t had much exposure to Cooper or Dresser (other than my API 618 days); I assume their machines are comparable but haven’t a clue what their performance applications or support are like.
Anyone have hands on experience with a Dresser VIP? Cool concept but I’m interested as to if the mechanical complexity distracts from run time and/or reliability.
Run Away Run Away from the VIP. I have heard some bad things about them. Rebuilding them is not easy and required special parts. Being a different technology they are not understood by most compressor mechanics (not that I understand them either). If you packaged a bunch of them for a small system it would be a good thing but one VIP in a field of 100s of standard compressor cylinders causes havoc.
