Rebar burn through form

I heard a comment from a GC recently that the rebar is burning through the form at one beam. I think he meant there isn't adequate clearance from the rebar to the edge of concrete. Has anyone heard this terminology before and where does it come from?

I've heard that reference/term before as well. Don't know where it comes from.

haynewp....that's exactly what it means...."burnin'" the form is no clearance (cover). Common in my "neck of the woods"!

Yes - I have heard and use the term a good bit. Burning the edge of something means to be right up against it. Not sure of its origin...

I'd guess it's because of the rust offset from the rebar onto the form.

I have never understood the apparent need to bastardise the English language as has been happening more and more recently. Someone comes up with an "interesting" new use for a word, completely unconnected with its real meaning, and everyone jumps in a uses it ad nauseam. Eventually it finds its way into some dictionary as an official new use for the word. And eventually we end up with a completely unintelligible language.
