Realview Issue at Assembly Level

Hello all,
I am having strange issues with Realview. My parts display Realview correctly but when I use then in an assembly the only difference between Realview and not is the reflection under the assembly. Basiclly the components lose the Realview look at the assembly level. Small assy about 10 parts and I have LAM turned off as well. Thanks for any suggestions. My specs are as follows:

SW2008 sp4.0
Dell Precision T3400
Core2Duo 3.15GHz
XP x64
nvidia QuadroFX 1700
8GB RAM

I have the same problems as you I think. Sometimes the parts display correctly at assembly level, sometimes not. Also one part can display correcttly at the same time as another one don´t. I have almost an identical computer as you, FX1700, SW sp4.0 but XP32. I suspect the graphic card driver but haven´t taken the time to try another version. Let me know if you do that.

VIMS, I am having the exact same problem as you, thanks for letting me know that I don't walk this road solo, it does help in a small way.

CBL, NICE file that goes in depth more than I have seen before regarding the usage of RV. However, after review the entire file I see no reason for the current behavior of my Realview, unless I missed it

Are you sure you don't have an appearance applied at the componenet or assembly level to the parts giving you issues?

Hi rockguy,
What I did is apply a material "Chrome SS" for each component and modeled them with realview turned on. I have applied no textures or other appearances. In fact, at the part level, turning on/off the realview does not always change the part either.

When in a part or assy, click on the >> icon at the top RH corner of the Feature Manager panel. This should show all the display settings which have been applied and at which level.

I seemed to have fixed my issue. I was creating the parts as I mentioned above (with RV on and using Chrome SS) material. I did not use the RV tab on the RH side of the screen to drag & drop the material onto the part. I have now done this to all of the parts and all show correctly on the assembly level. After dragging and dropping I did have to toggle the RV icon on/off to get it to show up.

Hope this will help VIMS issues as well.

Nah, If I do it like you say I get the correct appearance in the part and assembly. If I then close the part and assembly somtimes i get the correct appearance when I open it again, somtimes i don´t. Sometimes if the part is in a subassembly and I open the part from the top assembly it looses its appearance when I close the part and go back to the top assembly. It could be that I am to blame for this behaviour but I don´t think so...

Which video card and driver are you using?

FX1700 driver 6.14.11.6926. I have seen that it´s not an approved driver. As I said in my first post i suspect the driver, just haven´t taken the time to install the older driver. I have a Dell so I guess i chould use the Dell approved driver 6.14.11.6956 or 6.14.11.6255. I will try to update the driver during next week. I´ll post the result.

When changing drivers, don't forget to uninstall the old one first, reboot, then install new driver.

When the RealView feature came out, I thought that would be the coolest possible thing to have. So I shelled out for a compatible graphics card. I then found out I have to use the (narrow) selection of SolidWorks materials, and the PhotoWorks materials I'd cultivated have nothing to do with RealView. Big disappointment.

I guess with SW packages that don't have PhotoWorks, RealView would be an asset. But with PhotoWorks--and now PhotoView360, I really wonder what's the point in having all these different types of displaying material properties within SolidWorks. Seems a rather fractured approach.
