Read/Write permissions

Good day all,

I have complete project that we had commissioned an outside supplier to do the design work for us on and when we received a copy of the CD with all of our data on it, every file was earmarked read only, with no write access. Is there a way to convert all the files within a directory at once to full accesses?

You have to move the files off the CD to your HDD. If they are still RO, then you can RMB the folder and change the attributes of the folder and apply it to the files and folders below.

You can't change anything on the CD.

Maybe the CD or your drive is not re-writeable. You should copy everything to your hard disk, then if necessary select all the files and right click (RMB), select Properties and then uncheck "Read Only", then click OK.

Sorry guys, I wasn’t very clear after re-reading my post. I have already copied these files from the CD to our network location, I believe that I found the problem, it doesn’t seem to be a permissions sort of thing but there is an attribute for read only that can be checked or unchecked. After un-checking this, my irritation went away. Apparently the first cups of coffee hadn’t kicked in yet for me! Thanks for the responses, as always terrific group of SW users and teachers.

When one burns a CD the files automatically receive this property setting. Always get in the habit of changing the file properties to remove the read-only attributes on the files and subfolders when when you copy things off a CD
