Was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with rcp motors, in particular the addition of oil to the upper bearing reservoir and any air entrapment that has caused false level readings. In my particular case, the upper oil reservoir is reported to hold 225 gallons of oil, but after adding 175 gallons of oil the level in the sight glass reads full. I can not find any vents on the prints that would let the air out(if any).I have been told that these motors are notorious for holding air because of the tortuous path the oil must take to get thru the system. Any help would be appreciated.

I work at a nuke plant and I haven't heard of any problems with air getting trapped during fill. If these are Westinghouse pumps I would call Westinghouse/EMD/Curtiss-Wright in Cheswick PA and ask them. Let me know if you need contact info for those guys.
