I used to use Everstress (Washington DOT) to review strains, stresses and deflections due to loading to model different scenarios for pavement rehabilitation, but, it is no longer available and the old version doesn't work on Windows anymore.

Any suggestions on free or commercial software that is relatively easy to use that will do multi-layer elastic analysis.

I also used Elsym in the way-back, but it was a DOS program... yikes. I think I also used Circly back then.

Any ideas? Cheers.

Unfortunately, a few of us in the same boat!

I keep two older computers "alive" for just these issues. I have ELSYM5 running on one of them and Everstress on the other.

Huang's program is pretty good, just not very user friendly and a little quirky.

I second sigma/w. I've used slope/w extensively before using sigma/w so it was really easy to pick up.

sigma/w is a nice program, but a bit too expensive unless you are doing a lot of LEA work.

Somewhere is my mountains of stuff, I have the ELSYM5 source code, written in Fortran. When I have nothing better to do, I'll probably try to port it to something Windows-based.[lol]

I used MnLayer (by Professor Lev Khazanovich) during my graduate studies. When I was Google'ing for Mn Layer this came out:

Looks like MnPave uses MnLayer to do the LEA. I expect that other DOTs use similar free software for design.

Not sure if MnPave output give you stresses and deflections. If not, perhpaps you can contact Prof. Khazanovich ( to get a copy of MnLayer.

More info about MnLayer here:
