Hello!
I'm looking for hints on how to design the RC protection for large motors started and protected with vacuum breakers. I have read that together with surge supressors there is a need for RC group surge protection to limit the steepness of voltage rise.
I know that usually you have to make a EMTP programme simulation but it is very complicated and time consuming (not to mention you have to be an expert). Maybe somebody has already found an article/ recommendation for the design method for such a RC group.
Thanks!

I'd suggest a web search for motor (or generator) surge suppression. Normally the surge capacitor is integral with the surge (lightning) arrester and furnished as a single unit.

Bus if the motor is fed from a VFD or a soft starter, search this forum for a recent discussion of the problems with using capacitors.
